We have entered the world of colonising plants!

Launched by the Orion Space Generation Foundation, Csillagváros Ltd. Vertical Farm raised it, and Budapest Makery served our colonisation plants on this fantastic evening.

Space plants? Yes, these plants are also grown on Earth, but they are not grown in the same way. In Csillagváros Ltd., we are using technology that will be similar to that used to grow food on Mars, the Moon and other distant celestial bodies. The innovative cultivation of Space Crops could provide a solution to ensure that astronauts have access to high quality and nutritious food during their long-duration Space missions.

A galactic culinary adventure based on Space plants, an unusual location and a truly friendly atmosphere characterised the opening event of the Space Plant Dinner last week, a joint project of the Orion Space Generation Foundation, Csillagváros Ltd. and Budapest Makery.

Hungarian space industry players, innovation leaders, culinary professionals and vertical farm experts were among the 30 guests at the Space Science Dinner. The event was hosted at the world’s first DIY restaurant, Budapest Makery, where guests had the opportunity to prepare a special menu. Dishes „spiced up” with Space plants, such as chicken panini, chilli crab, passion fruit tiramisu, poppy seed muffin and several delicious cocktails were prepared „do it yourself”, so everyone could „eat what they cooked”, and Space plants from the Csillaváros Vertical Farm made the dinner a space-appropriate culinary journey with special flavours.

The vertical farm, entirely developed and produced in Hungary, could also address food shortages caused by climate change and overpopulation. Currently, the Csillagváros Vertical Farm produces micro greens, baby leaves and lettuces in a hydroponic system, with LED lighting, in a circular system, regardless of the weather. The amount of water used in pesticide-free production can be up to 95 percent less than in traditional plant production.

The main goal of our event was to make the inexhaustibly rich world of space tangible for ordinary people through our triple partnership, to introduce our guests to the topic of Space plants and the research and development background based on the vertical farm management system. The Orion Space Generation Foundation is committed to connecting Space Science with everyday life in a unique way and will continue to support projects that bring people into the world of Space Science and its importance in an unusual way.
